3 Tips For Preparing To Show Your Home In The Spring

Posted on: 6 May 2017

If you are planning on selling your real estate in the spring, you may wonder if there is anything you can do to prepare your house to make it more appealing to potential buyers. If so, use one or more of the three tips below to help you prepare your home for a springtime showing.

Open The Windows

After being shut up after a long winter season, the air in your house may be stuffy and have an old, musty smell. One way to remedy this is to air your home out by opening the windows on the first warm, sunny day.

If you have enough notice about the showing, try to air out your home the day before the appointment. If weather permitting, you may want to keep them open during the showing to give your home a light, airy feeling to it.

Set Out Seasonal Flowers

Many people find the sight and smell of flowers refreshing after cold weather in the dead of winter. To add a splash of color and a hint of new life, you may want to set out seasonal flowers as a decoration in your home.

For example, if you want rich colors with a light fragrance, you can place a few hyacinths in your living and bedrooms. To bring in the brightness of the sun, make a centerpiece for the dining room table using vibrantly yellow daffodils.

Wipe The Woodwork With Lavender Water

Another thing you can do to make potential buyers feel at home in your house is to wipe the woodwork with lavender water. The aroma of lavender brings a sense of calm and peace to most people who smell its fragrance.

While there are commercial cleaners that claim to smell like the plant, using lavender oil gives a natural, refreshing scent that is not overpowering. If possible, make your own using lavender essential oil, which can be found in natural health stores and pharmacies.

To make the lavender water, use 10 to 15 drops per gallon of water. Then, use a soft cloth dampened with the mixture to wipe down your woodwork. After the water dries, the oil will remain, giving off a pleasant, clean scent that is also welcoming.

The above tips are just a few ideas for making your home more appealing to potential buyers during a showing. For more personalized advice and tips, you may want to speak with your real estate agent who can give you more ideas on how to present your home while trying to sell it in the spring.
