An agent will know from past experiences exactly which homes to recommend and which ones might not fit your needs, allowing you to narrow down the search quickly in order to find your dream home.
Keep a list
After looking at multiple homes for sale, they can all start to blend into one amalgamation of attributes in your mind. Did the last place you look at have a swimming pool or was that the very first one you toured? Were you impressed by the garage or the yard size of this other home? To help you keep things straight, start keeping actual notes about what you did and didn't like regarding a particular home. You can do this on your phone initially but having a paper copy that you can flip back and forth through for easier comparisons may make more sense in the long run.
Tour the neighborhoods
Too many people go straight to the homes for sale that they're interested in and then they immediately leave. This doesn't always give you an accurate impression of the area. If you only visit once or twice without looking around, you could miss things that you'd rather be avoiding, such as neighbors whose yard is always messy or neighbors that regularly blare loud music but only on certain nights. You'll never be able to catch everything before you move in but it only makes sense to have as much information as possible before you choose your home.
